No Fat Tea Biscuits

They are good!!

I screwed up tonight and the biscuits were in the oven for 10 minutes before I realized that I forgot to add the shortening!

Less fat is a good thing, and these biscuits  are really good so I think I’m going to make biscuits this way most of the time .

LOL!! I wish all my screwups turned out this good!!

Without the shortening you need to add more milk than you normally would.

Also I find that 1 tsp of salt is a bit too salty for my taste so I use a wee bit less than 1 tsp salt.

Preheat oven to 425 F.

In a bowl put
2 cups flour
4 1/4 tsp baking powder.
1 tsp salt. Or a bit less.
1 1/4 cups milk + extra if you need it, or less. (it depends on your area and the humidity at the time)

Mix everything together well, then turn out on a floured board. Do not knead too much, only about 3 times, if at all.
Sometimes I just pat it into a round shape.
I use a floured glass to cut out the biscuits.

You do not need to grease the baking sheet .

Bake in a 425 F oven for 12 – 15 minutes.

When they are done put them on a rack to cool.

To make biscuits regular biscuits add to the above recipe 1/4 cup shortening and cut in with 2 knives or pastry cutter until it is the size of small dried peas and use only 1 cup milk.
